Grow in Favor
Who did your homework?
Did it do you any good?
Today we’re gonna talk about FAVOR. This kind of favor means: Approved, kindness to you or someone.
We need God’s favor in our lives… we need Him to approve of us and we need His kindness for when we do well and when we mess up.
An advantage we have as Christians is we can REPENT when we do wrong. If following the fruits of the Spirit and showing love according to 1 Cor 13:5-8 is doing right, then what is doing wrong??
Matthew 3:8- Produce fruit in keeping with repentance NIV
Matthew 3:8- Do the things that shop you have really changed your hearts and lives NCV
Read Luke 3:7-9
Lets do our “love meter”. Where do you think you’re at this week? Did you do better, worse, or the same as last week?
God makes it clear that when Jesus is in our hearts we are supposed to act like the fruits of the Spirit… We are human though, so we mess up sometimes. God said that when we mess up we are to repent. Repent means to turn or to change. So when we repent we are to work harder at the thing we failed in…. so we don’t keep asking God for forgiveness of the same thing all the time.
It is very important that we repent right after we sin. God doesn’t want to wait on an apology, He wants us to always be in His favor and to come to Him quickly.
Here is a “model” Repentance prayer
“Lord, thank You for being God and loving me. Lord, I just________________________ and I know it was against Your word. I’m so sorry. I promise to try my best to do better. Help me live in Your favor. Thank You. In Jesus Name, amen.
If we keep living by the fruits of the Spirit and by 1 Cor 13:4-8 and we are quick to repent when we do wrong, we will always be in Gods favor.
HOMEWORK:
Pray, read bible, and journal everyday. Work on your fruits of the Spirit so we can move the meter up next week. Work on 1 Cor 13:4-8. Don’t forget when you mess up to HURRY and ask God for forgiveness. You’re doing great with your homework!!
